STUDENT SUCCESS STORIES

January 15, 2014

HAD A GREAT COACHNG SESSION TODAY.

I THINK YOU ARE REALLY GOING TO ENJOY READING ABOUT THIS.

CHANGE CAN OCCUR WITH THE PROPER RECEIPE:

  • HIGHLY MOTIVATED PARTICIPANT WHO IS OPEN TO LEARNING,

  • IMMEDIATE AND FACT BASED (not opinion) FEEDBACK,

  • AND A COACH WHOSE GOAL IS THE STUDENTS' SUCCESS

For a number of years, I have had the privilage of serving as Golf Coach for SS.  With his affinity for practice, play and study, SS has made great progress over the years: recently even falling just 1 shot shy of his goal of posting a round in the 60's.  But one thing we have not been able to do is is come up with a LASTING SOLUTION  to his frequent left shots.  UNTIL TODAY, PERHAPS.

Our session today, started like many others.  A discussion of what SS what focusing on, what he was feeling with his swing and of course, what was happening on the course.

As we started on the first of his 141 shots that he would hit today, it was not pretty.  The ball was hit solid, but it continued to drift left:  more than a bit.

One of the many cool things about Learning with TrackMan is the ability to review each and every shot taken during a Coaching session.  And the data is accurate:  within 1 foot at 100 yards!

The results of the first 10 shots hit with a 9 iron are shown here. For the next 40 shots, we talked about what was happening, why it was happening and possible ways to make improvements.  Make no mistake: it was not easy and there was frustration.  But SS being the motivated player that he is, perservered.

Then things finally clicked.  And as you can see the results were nothing short of PHENOMONAL!  CONGRATS SS!  Now the real fun begins.  It is up to SS to practice and try to make this new motion the new normal.  GOOD LUCK SS!

The average of SS's first 10 shots, was 40 feet off target as shown above.  Only 1 shot was within 15 feet of the target.  The worst shot, as shown above, was 89 feet left of target.  CLEARLY, NOT GOOD.

The average of SS's final 10 shots, was 9 feet off target as shown above.  ALL 10 SHOTS WERE WITHING 15 FEET OF THE TARGET LINE!  The best shot was only 3.9 feet off the target line.

AND THE REST OF THE STORY.  SS, being the inquisitive and motivated type that he has always been, wondered if he might be able to make a similar improvement with a longer club, say the 5 hybrid.  During the middle of our session, SS's 5 hybrid shots averaged 40 feet off target.  By appling the same concepts that he used with his 9 iron, SS averaged just 14 feet off target with his 5 hybrid to end our marathon session.  PRETTY COOL STUFF!
